I have an urge to scream and blaspheme. Loudly.
Therefore I shall write. A page of under-the-breath mutterings. F****ing twatty solicitors, estate agents and people buying our house. GO TO HELL. What a bastard week we've just had. This coming week should be our last in our lovely Lawrence Road home. But we'll be here a little longer. As a result of someone's (solicitor?) incompetence. We're so close to Wales I can smell it. It is in touching distance. And according to Rob (the current owner) the sun is out there today....the skies are clear, the house is warm and cosy. And he has just taken delivery of a huge pile of logs for when we move in. He is such a nice chap. Our buyers are now threatening to pull out. When we are soooooo f***ing close. But then she is pregnant. Baby is due in June. And they are currently living with her parents. In Wilmslow. So clearly pulling out now is the only option. FFS. So basically - we're ready to exchange and complete on our house. They want to move in next Friday (2 March). But if we do that....we could (very worst case scenario) end up homeless with a George, two dogs and a rabbit. We are waiting on one important Deed of Covenant. To seal the deal on Wales. That's all. Just one thing. It will happen. Just not by 2 March. But it could. So I had to make a decision yesterday. I decided that even if it all falls into place before Friday...we need another week at least before we move out. So I've booked flights and hotel for Switzerland - I will be there next week now. So..Dear People Buying our House. Chill your beans. Back off a little. Let us breathe. Stop with the pressure. And give us another week to see if we can finalise the last bit of Welsh paperwork. Or just f***king pull out. We won't lose anything. The Welsh house will wait for us. It may just be a little longer before we get to enjoy those views. And while I am ranting in the cubicle (office) Stu is watching this The good news this week? (there is always good news) Switzerland people have asked me to stay on with them until Summer. Climbing hills in snow is not easy. And in frozen snow it's even harder.
With every step you don't know whether you're going to stay on the top...or plunge two feet. With every step you manage to stay on the surface you get lured into a false sense of security. You think you've found a particularly well packed patch of snow. Then you move. A millimetre. And then you drop. Today we managed about 10k steps. Following moose tracks around the lake behind the cabin and up over the hill. Those moose don't half wander aimlessly. In no particular direction. Stopping every now and then for a nibble on a bush. Followed by a big pile of oval poo blobs. And they climb. I had no idea they were quite so nimble as their tracks seem to indicate. Anyway. The walk burned off a few calories and gave us some stunning views of the fjord, the lake and distant snowy mountains lit up by the afternoon sun. It was all so wonderful I slept like a log for an hour when we got back. Last night the aurora forecasters predicted 2.34kp. So with half an hour to spare we set off in the car - back to the beach we had walked to previously. And we sat there. On the picnic bench. In -10. Surrounded by snow. For around an hour and a half. Those forecasters know jack shit. Not even a 1kp I reckon. As in hardly a glimmer of green. We'd seen better back at the cabin earlier in the evening when the forecast was close to zero. Tonight the predictions are low. So what d'ya bet the bloody sky lights up while we're tucked up having a much needed early night? Today's photos: the lake behind the cabin. The clearest water ever. Spotless. Not a plastic bag, broken bike, coke bottle or used pampers nappy anywhere. The deer seem to have found a new spot this year. After a couple of days of walking and driving in the Ballangen area we’ve not come across them.
We have seen a lot of moose (elk). More than we saw last year. We even spotted one paddling in the fjord opposite the cabin. We’ve also seen a lot of sea eagles. And...sea otters. Those guys are seriously happy chaps. They are always playing. Rolling around in the water with big grins on their faces. They remind me of the dogs...when they play fight. Though the otters seem to actually like each other and don’t end the playing with bared teeth. Yesterday we managed to walk another 17km. Once you get going the pain from the previous walk soon wears off. And last night we had another fantastic display of aurora colours. Just a shame the moon is so bright and high in the sky. It would have looked all the more stunning in a darker sky. But that’s the thing about the aurora...there are a lot of considerations. Today we went out for bread. The shop is that far away that’s about all we could fit in. And now we’re waiting and watching. One eye on the Aurora EU predictions and the other out of the big window. Stu has a third eye. Not sure what he’s got that on. Today’s photo is the best that Stu could get of the otters that we spotted yesterday. They were far too giddy to pose for photos... |
